Zero Tolerance Pledge
Take a stand. Be part of the change.
The Zero Tolerance Pledge Workshop by Éist – Saying No to Silence is a powerful, accessible starting point for individuals, businesses, organisations, and communities who want to take a clear and public stand against domestic, sexual and gender-based violence.
This is more than a workshop.
It is a commitment to change.
Delivered as a live 90-minute online session, this workshop offers the opportunity to learn, reflect, and take meaningful action — in a way that feels informed, supported, and achievable.
What is the Zero Tolerance Pledge?
The Zero Tolerance Pledge is a community-led movement that declares clearly and publicly that violence, abuse, harassment, and coercive control are not accepted or tolerated — anywhere.
It is about shifting culture.
Challenging what has been normalised.
And creating environments where safety, respect, and accountability are the standard.

What to expect from the workshop
This session is designed to be informative, engaging, and grounded in real-life experiences.
You will:
- Build a clear understanding of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence
- Explore the attitudes and behaviours that allow harm to continue
- Learn how to respond safely and appropriately in everyday situations
- Gain practical tools to promote safer, more respectful environments
- Understand what it means to take the Zero Tolerance Pledge, and how to put it into action
There is space for reflection and learning, without pressure to share personal experiences.
Who is this for?
We welcome:
- Individuals who want to better understand and challenge harmful behaviours
- Businesses and workplaces committed to creating safer environments
- Organisations, clubs, and community groups
- Anyone who wants to be part of building a culture of respect and accountability
No prior knowledge is needed, just a willingness to engage.
Taking the Pledge
At the end of the workshop, participants are invited to take the Zero Tolerance Pledge.
This is a visible commitment to:
- Stand against violence and abuse
- Support survivors
- Challenge harmful behaviours
- Promote a culture of respect, safety, and equality
Participants will receive a digital pledge certificate and banner to display across their platforms, showing their commitment to creating safer communities.
Why it matters
Ending violence is not the responsibility of individuals alone, it requires a collective, community-wide response.
The Zero Tolerance approach recognises that real change happens when people, organisations, and communities come together to say: this is not acceptable, and we will not ignore it.
Join us
This workshop is free and open to participants nationwide.
Whether you are taking your first step or building on existing work, this is an opportunity to be part of something bigger - a growing movement working towards a society where everyone feels safe, respected, and heard.

Zero Tolerance Midlands

Éist introduces the Zero Tolerance campaign to the Midlands
Standing together against gender-based violence
Following the success of the Zero Tolerance campaign in Dublin, Éist is proud to bring this vital initiative to the Midlands region.
Our goal is simple but powerful, to create a community where violence and abuse are never tolerated, and everyone can live free from fear.
Why the Midlands?
Gender-based violence affects every community — urban and rural alike.
However, local data and frontline experience show that many people in the Midlands continue to face barriers when seeking help or speaking out.
By introducing the Zero Tolerance campaign here, Éist aims to:
-
Raise awareness about the realities of sexual, and gender-based violence.
-
Challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours that allow abuse to continue.
-
Empower communities to take action, support survivors, and promote respect and equality.
-
Build stronger local partnerships between services, organisations, and community groups to ensure coordinated, effective responses.
Learning from Dublin's success
The Dublin Zero Tolerance campaign showed that change is possible when communities unite.
-
Awareness increased significantly across all demographics.
-
More people recognised the signs of abuse and sought support.
-
Local services reported stronger collaboration and earlier intervention.
Éist is now adapting these proven strategies for the unique needs of Midlands communities, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Our vision
A Midlands where:
-
Everyone is treated with dignity and respect
-
Abuse and harassment are never accepted or ignored
-
Survivors are heard, believed, and supported
-
Each of us plays a role in building a safe, equal, and caring community

Zero Tolerance Westmeath
Westmeath Becomes Ireland's First Zero Tolerance County
We are delighted to share that Westmeath County Council has committed to the Zero Tolerance Campaign, becoming the first county in Ireland to take a public stand against domestic, sexual and gender-based violence.

This commitment followed a motion brought forward by Councillor Julie McCourt at the December meeting of Westmeath County Council, highlighting the Zero Tolerance Campaign delivered in partnership with Eíst.
As a community-led organisation based in Mullingar and working across County Westmeath and the Midlands, this moment is hugely significant for us. It represents a shared understanding that violence and abuse have no place in our communities, and that everyone has a role to play in creating safety, respect, and accountability.
Eíst was co-founded by Hazel Behan and Bairbre Kelly, whose work is grounded in lived experience and a deep understanding of the realities and impact of gender-based violence. Through counselling, advocacy, and practical supports, we work alongside those affected by violence, supporting them in rebuilding their lives with dignity and choice.
We warmly welcome Westmeath County Council's leadership in committing to a Zero Tolerance approach. This pledge sends a clear message that survivors matter, that harmful behaviour will be challenged, and that our county is committed to building safer towns and villages for everyone.
This partnership reflects the power of collaboration between local authorities, community organisations, and residents. Together, we can raise awareness, strengthen supports, and create environments where people feel protected, believed, and supported.
We are proud to work alongside Westmeath County Council as we take this important step forward, and we look forward to continuing this work with communities across the county.
